What school are you studying? Which section?

I am studying in 2nd year of DSAA Creator Design Designer option produces ENSAAMA Olivier de Serres. This is my fifth year at Olivier de Serres. I have make the Upgrade and the BTS Product Design, so I know pretty well in school!

The LSS is theoretically the level of study highest-applied arts, but it is still possible to continue entering the schools of the Ministry of Culture (ENSAD, ENSCI ...) or by a special master. There are indeed some schools and universities that offer masters in one year. For example ENSAM, Ecole des Arts et Metiers (engineering school) offers a joint master engineer ergonomist / designer, on the campus of Marne-la-Vallee can be a master marketing of luxury. They are studies of different design but that can become complementary in a career. But the search for employment is the first solution after the degree.


What are you doing? (Areas of study, workshops ...)

The LSS is divided into four semesters over two years.
In first year there are still a number of courses: Offices of creation, artistic expression, technical art and civilization, computer science, English, philosophy, management, marketing and law.
In the second year for the first semester (semester 3) is no longer the last three. And finally for the last six months we have only project monitoring staff with our tutors and teachers section.
This project is a major component of the LSS, it was decided in the first year of our subject. At the end of the year (around June) we pass an approval subject to the panel the diploma to validate our study theme. Then in the second year we only work on this project (for the office created). It makes a memory, then a project that resulted in a visual and oral presentation to the jury and teachers at the end of second year.

- What school are studying you?

I am in the third and final year in the section Video Games to LISAA ( The Insitute of Applied Arts higher). There are three establishments in Paris with each of their specialties. I will not speak here of the school located at Square Henri Delormel that teaches 3D animation, 2D animation and video game .

The first year (preparatory class) is a refresher course in different areas: Still Life, storyboard, drawing nude sketches outdoor, animation, computer graphics ... The amount of work is very important, especially when, like me, you did not drawings before entering school. It quickly gained a good foundation, then everyone is free to add stones to the building. The teachers are attentive and do not hesitate to spend time with those entering the field. There is no form of elitism but maybe I've been very lucky. At the end of this first year, each student must complete a personal project related to the section in which he wants to go. It is both a way to prove to yourself that this is really what we want to do, but the goal is to show the jury that it's worth it to keep us.

It is above all a personal journey. Everyone is free to work or do nothing. Just do not forget that even the graduation, the job will not come alone. End of aside.


- What do you ?

Following this first year very informative (if it has the means), I joined the section GAME which takes place in two years. Two years is a short but very busy. I'll try to be concise ... It follows the same course in both years.

The game design (drawing paper in a video game: its history, its mechanical, its gameplay, its overall consistency), 3D animation, real-time , sound, graphical environment, prototyping and morphology.

In second year, we are asked to perform 3 different projects in groups (work in groups, they say it enough, is crucial!). One was the development of a thesis on a category video games, the second project objective was to achieve an arena of 3D fighting game with two characters, a project designed to test our ability and drawing software; and a final project (most importantly) where you must create an initial stake in a team of 5 persons.

At the end of this second year , and with this latest project, each student moves naturally towards the track where he flourished as: graphics, animation, level / game design, the modeling, programming ... Homogeneous groups are formed then.

The third year can begin. A final year entirely for the production of a demo game playable. At the end of the course, each group presents its project to an audience of professionals.

During this project, we are immersed in an environment semiprofessional . Indeed, although we have no commercial constraints on development boxes (so this is the year when it is above all fun), we must establish a schedule and meet the timeline all responding to technical constraints. All this in order to present a finished, coherent and non-budgeted .

In terms of software, we use essentially 3 DSMax ® for modeling and animation (although Maya ® courses are exempt), p and i hotoshop ® llustrator ® for drawing; v irtools ® for programming; first ® for video editing; Sound Forge / Acid ®. Added to this course "bonus", which are useful but not essential for our diploma (but still good on the CV ): MAXScript ®, Dreamweaver / Html ®, and since this year, Unreal Engine ®.


-What do you think your school?

As stated above, LISAA is a private school. The school is expensive. Do not run (as much) in the dark. In the third year, although we still have some courses (especially in the control software), it works primarily for ourselves, for our group project.

That said, the important thing is this: the teachers. All are professionals and teachers (at different levels, of course). They're referrals on our choices, we advise on the research end of the course of study (required for graduation) and the method to adopt. As you will see them, they spend time to resolve your concerns, even during the holidays (by mail or going to school). Finally I would add that the premises are very beautiful (brand new) with quality materials.

In Game , the general atmosphere is good. It tu teachers and the climate is not too "geek (heureusement. ..). The quarrels between group members exist, but as in life, hardly predictable. It is a medium- before any male, although this year a couple of girls came in second year (unheard of! Thank the Wii ?)

Compared schools of public art, LISAA is young. She is gaining fame each year, thanks to competitions where students school projects often arrive well placed. Finally, in the video game, there is not much choice. Only Enjmin is public (but it takes at least one BAC +3 to integrate).

On the 2D and 3D animation, this is a good springboard to Goblins (which remains the school queen in both areas).


-What is the right profile?

Studying mechanics, understanding the behavior of " artificial intelligence " and more generally the scripts. Frankly, we do not force little by little we are naturally focused on the small details that make the whole.

must also dare to leave the shackles established by mass consumption and offer new emotions. Certainly a war game will sell more than a poetic play, but Marc Levy no longer advance the literature that John Kennedy Tool.

As for the design of a game, there is a very close relationship between the developer and the consumer. At no time does he need to omit the fact that a player will control our " work . The back and questioning are perpetual.


- Would you work to show us?

We are in prod ', he'll have to be patient. We intend to present our project, as it should, in most competitions, even strangers.

- How is employability?

Although the crisis is present (as everywhere) opportunities in the game are numerous. Ubisoft is our primary recruiter, but there are many other French clubs.

The secret is obviously to create a good book and polish up the final project review. And when you are passionate about the task, although time consuming is not hard;)
