Forum Candid College Initiation

ENSAD - Section Graphic Design - Testimony Adrian Contest

1. What are you doing in your division, exactly?

I am in Graphic Design for Art Deco. I am currently in grade 4.
After a year of core courses dedicated to the experience and the time of discovery of some areas from the second year we are specialized (unlike the Decorative Arts of Strasbourg, for example).
2nd year we have learned the basics, basics. We're working on topics detached from any constraints 'professional', the exercises are short and the common teaching in different sections is still very present (drawing, photo, video, sculpture, painting, ... (these are options choose), but also humanities perspective, and history of art (for art history courses are offered different and common to years 2, 3 and 4).
3rd year long subjects are given. In fact in Graphic Design (and Multimedia), there is a pedagogy étallée 3 semesters:
- 1st half of year 3: editorial graphics
- 2nd semester of 3rd year graphic design and space (stage design, signage, video. ..)
- 1st semester of the fourth year of graphic identity.

In addition to these broad themes we delivered a very serious learning about typography. There are also workshops (= workshop) that on smaller time to come forth with enough time to work vigorous. We also have projects with other sections which is quite difficult to implement and not necessarily supported as they should by teachers (and education generally Ensad).

In Grade 4 we also do an internship of at least 3 months. It can be done the summer before the fourth year following the summer or during the second half.

Finally, in the 4th year we must make a personal memoir. From an average of 100 pages, this work must demonstrate the quality of our thinking on a topic name. It can have no link with our final project study (grade 5).

5th Year we must build a project of a certain size. It can be done in a multidisciplinary or small group even though this is rarely the case. The fifth year is still not set up because we see this year in his 2nd birthday (the reform of 4 to 5 years having passed 3 years ago).

2. A continuation of studies which it does it engage you? / How employability?

Soon the school issue a diploma (or certificate) to leave school after Grade 3. But for now everyone must be 5 years, which is a very good time to study art and can put a quality education, not constrained by the lack of time.
There are quite a few people who continue their studies later. But Ensad proposes a new cycle after graduation that lasts 3 years. This would be equivalent to a PhD but it is also a novelty it does not really know what it's going to give. One can also pursue one of the great foreign schools (such as the Royal College in London or the Dutch highly regarded schools for graphic design).
But then that is quite famous for Ensad to take up employment as a result of 5 years. Graphic design, where there are a lot of demand, finding work is not very difficult (unless you are self-difficult).

For employability ago roughly two options. Or seek work in an agency or a workshop existing or start a business as an independent. The most confident of us often go to this second option. Follows a difficult beginning and rarely a future billionaire, but to do his job as we like to do is still the best way to proceed.

-------------

Would you some visuals (photos, sketches) of your achievements in your field?

I work online http://www.formes-vives.org (Graphic Design section) and the work of 2nd and 3rd year are seen http://zammit.over -blog.com (my old blog-site).

---------------- What do you think your school? (Environment, comparison with other schools you know .......)

atmosphere for Art Deco was enough to disconcert. This is not really the party and the partitions between sections are tight enough for a majority of students. At present the multidisciplinary exists but is not really encouraged, and more generally the work is rarely surprising. Work is still very good (in average) but the level of reflection is not always what you (the humanities are not necessarily very well integrated in our production instance).
If this school is a real chance. Me just a BTS (design object in Lyon, La Martiniere Compost), I found a lot of material here to do what I want, good teachers (unengaged with us but always good advice to provide) and students with interesting work that becomes a pleasure.

Compared to other schools in Paris (take the Fine Arts, Ensci landscaping and school that I know fairly well), we feel some degree of closure, some hostility to the outside. The school is closed to the public , it closes at 21h30 and weekends (the Fine Arts closes at 23h and 20h on weekends and the other 2 are open 24/24 7 / 7) and we have a certain lack of space. Is added to this zero tolerance applied by the technical direction of some real castrating desires. The associations represented at the school are a little resistance and bring a good mood and we're still quite proud to have 5 bands (one band per coupon).

Otherwise, I could make an exchange Eramsus at Central Saint Martins in London (one of the great opportunities offered Ensad are trade related to foreign travel grants). CSM, despite its good reputation, has proven to be a level far worse with far too many students to be well supervised. The atmosphere was even more individualistic and opening hours even more restricted. In short, it was a disappointment.

French schools, the Art Deco is without doubt the school more 'bourgeois'. The social level of her students is very high, many from a preparatory year at a private school (the workshops of Sevres top line). Many Parisians are original and have a cultural background quite important. We think what we want, but according to whence it was sometimes felt to be out of reality.

-----------------

What qualities they expected from a future student in your section?

Qualifications are probably common in all sections. You must be passionate, inquisitive and curious. For the different competitions (1st year falls where a majority of students in 2nd year and 4th year now) the student must show a generosity in his work and a certain detachment, I think, with what exists. Have a rather personal work is the only way to remove the large pack of candidates for entry. It

each project into a particular approach, there is not really practical to wait while people who want to return to practice as a small business man in the world (even if the output is what we often) are certainly not welcome. The school said an elite (remember that the ankle) and invites us to reflection of the authors. Thus we need a strong personality and ambition, although doubt is also very important.

Stiff Neck Headache Hard To Swallow

MANAA 2008

"Hello,

I came across your blog looking for information on the various artistic groups.
My name is Margot and I'm terminally The heavy option: plastic art. I want to study in art.
I'm still undecided, I do not know if I see the best in creative fields, graphics, paintings ... I always loved painting the figure, the contact area and right now I tell myself that I can be architecture or interior design that's why I'm starting in a few sketches and I try to learn from different perspectives. If you could guide me.
Thanks in advance. "

Your profile indicates that you have not yet chosen the good area in which you want to study. The preparation or MANAA enables you to make your choice.
Choose the school where you feel best and try as much competition as possible.
Think the most coveted competitions are so focused on them yourself first.
On the website of Applied Arts you have any information regarding the procedures for the assistance of Mana:
http://www.lycee-pasteur.com/sitenational/manfranc.html

I recommend strongly to consult the archives of this blog to find other schools possible. (Summary> Manaa or Prepa?)
You can also browse the links to find work student at study (interview of students in applied arts)

Good luck!
